On behalf of the BBSR and the BMWSB, EBP is implementing the ExWoSt research project to promote cooperation and exchange with a view to strengthening urban resilience in the G7 countries.

In September 2022, the ministers responsible for urban development met for the first time under the German G7 presidency and discussed strategies for the sustainable and resilient development of cities. The G7 process that began with this meeting is part of the international urban development policy of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Construction (BMWSB).

One of the four cornerstones of joint action is the promotion of cooperation and exchange on strategies to strengthen urban resilience. The ExWoSt research project implements this agreement. It is based on the Urban Resilience Memorandum published in 2021. The memorandum formulates various requirements for urban development policy, in particular calling for more intensive international cooperation in order to learn from the experiences gained in strengthening urban resilience in other countries.
EBP is working on the research project together with the University of Augsburg. Specifically, the research work pursues the following goals:

— Presentation of the current state of affairs and the importance of urban resilience in the G7 countries
— Identification and analysis of international practical examples and approaches in the field of urban resilience in the G7 countries
— Preparation of findings for political discourse and municipal practice
— Promotion of knowledge exchange and cooperative development of resilience strategies between the G7 countries
— Formulation of concrete recommendations for action to promote urban resilience at the national and international level
